Response to
Spriggs/On Buying Local

1.       Using facts and statistics I am convinced that “greener living” may be complicated but the positives outweigh the negatives.

2.       Counterarguments:
·         Mr Lermio agrees that he enjoys polyculture farming but says large scale farming is needed to stay ‘afloat’ in Wisconsin.
·         Alex Avery, from the Center for Global Food Issues believes growing “anywhere” is a strain on time/energy.
·         No appointed person argued buying locally will be detrimental to the environment. Small farms are not as efficient in use of resources.
-The misconception here depends on how economist measure efficiency.
·         John Clark from Christian Science Monitor believes buying local hurts third world countries.
-New conversations are needed on the commitment to environmentalism.

3.       Effective Writing:
The use and explanation of polycultures and monocultures are helpful in understanding the difference between small and large farming. This is appropriate background information which is useful in many of the other characteristics, mainly in attention to more than one point of view. With these examples you can weigh the pros and cons of both ideas.

4.       The use of photos puts her Spriggs’s ideas to the front of your minds as to envision her ideas of what organic looks like and what farms of different sizes look like.
